MISSION STATEMENT

Since this work is vulnerable, in the spirit , I will share what drew me towards making this site. I like a lot of other Smithies, come from a very different world than Smith. My first year I had a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that a lot of people at Smith had much different experiences of the world than I did, and I felt like I spent my whole time defending poor people, southern people and asking people to interrogate how race and class impacted their viewpoints: which was exhausting. And as much as I love Smith, most of the brightest parts of my Smith experience have been other POC students, or low-income students telling me that my speaking out made them more comfortable to be here. Especially as the Smith community still has work to do to create a version of Smith where all students can have a safe space to grow into themselves, I wanted to make this site a place where people could share stories of injustice at Smith, in the hopes of letting other people know that they're not alone, and pushing us all towards creating a more inclusive Smith community.
